Buxton Homers, Kernels Win Again

GRAND CHUTE, Wis. - Byron Buxton hit a three-run home run and Travis Harrison a solo shot as the Cedar Rapids Kernels blasted Wisconsin, 10-2, Monday night at Fox Cities Stadium.

The Kernels (4-1) scored three runs each in the first and second inning to pull away early. Buxton walked leading off the game and scored on a D.J. Hicks RBI double. Adam Brett Walker followed with a double that scored Romy Jimenez (who also had walked) and Hicks.

Buxton hit his second homer of the season in the second for a 6-0 lead. Harrison added his home run in the fifth, with Cedar Rapids adding three unearned runs in the eighth.

Starting pitcher David Hurlbut got the win, giving up three hits and two runs in six innings. Tyler Jones and Chris Mazza finished up in relief.

Walker had four RBIs in the game. He, Hicks and Jimenez had two hits apiece.

The teams play again Tuesday night at 6:35.
