Fighting Saints Ride Strong Effort from Goalie to Overtime Victory

By James Steward

The Fighting Saints of Dubuque took on Fargo in their second round opener Wednesday night.

In the 2nd period Joakim Ryan notched a goal on the power play for the Saints, and they took a 1-0 lead.

Dubuque goalie Matt Morris was strong in between the pipes, finishing with 20 saves on the night.

His counterpart, Fargo's Ryan Massa was also up to the task, however. Ryan's second-period goal was the only time the Fighting Saints would light the lamp in regulation.

At the end of three periods, the game was all knotted up in a 1-1 tie, and it went to overtime.

In the extra period, Nick Luuko scored the game winner for the Fighting Saints, capping a 2-1 victory.

These two teams will face each other again in Game 2 Friday night.
