Iowa Volleyball Falls to No. 13 Nebraska

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa volleyball team fell to No. 13 Nebraska, 3-0, on the road on Wednesday night. The Hawkeyes drop to 10-11 overall and 1-8 in Big Ten play with the loss.
The Hawkeyes fought to keep the score within striking distance in set one, 8-6, with a pair of Alex Lovell kills, one kill apiece from Rachael Bedell and Alessandra Dietz, and a Bedell and Dietz block, before the Cornhuskers took control outscoring Iowa 10-4 to pull ahead by eight.
The Hawkeye offense fought back with a four-point run, fueled by a kill and service ace from Lovell and a kill from Bedell to cut the deficit in half, 18-14, but Nebraska kept Iowa from closing the gap to record the set one win, 25-19.
In the second set, Iowa stayed with Nebraska using a trio of Bedell kills and one kill apiece from Brobst and Alli O'Deen to keep the score within two early, 9-7. The Cornhuskers then used an 8-0 run to pull ahead. Iowa attempted a comeback late, but it fell short as Nebraska played to a 25-17 set two win. Four kills and a service ace from Bedell and three kills from Brobst led the late charge for the Hawkeyes.
Nebraska recorded a dominating 25-8 set three win to take the match from the Hawkeyes, 3-0. The Cornhusker offense hit an impressive .556 in the set, while the Hawkeyes were in the negatives. Bedell notched three of Iowa's six total kills of the set.
Bedell posted a team-most 14 kills in the match and a team-high .333 hitting percentage. Setter duo Nikki Dailey and Alyssa Klostermann dished out 11 assists each to pace the Hawkeyes. Lovell led the way in the digs category with a total of 12 and her seven kills brings her within one of reaching the 1,000 career kills mark. If accomplished, she will be the 17th player in Iowa volleyball history to reach the milestone.
