Nation's Best Attacks Iowa River

Iowa City-On Saturday, Calvin Hassel of Grand Island, Nebraska showed why he is considered one of the top paddlers in the country.

In the morning he teamed up with Kathy Brimeyer of Dubuque to win the tandem canoe division of the Great Iowa River Canoe and Kayak Race from Iowa City to Hills.

He came back in the afternoon to win the solo canoe category over the 9.25 mile course down a low and slow Iowa River.

Hassel has won the solo canoe crown seven years in a row at the U.S. Canoe Marathon Championships.
