Hunters Gather At State Duck Calling Contest
By John Campbell, Reporter
BURLINGTON, Iowa -- Football fans have the draft. Baseball fans have the Hot Stove banquet.
If you are a waterfowl hunter, you have Burlington the first weekend in February: The State Duck Calling Contest.
Three-time state champion Rob Bevins of Belle Plaine is now a judge of the tournament, and said he is looking for "overall flow, and volume is pretty important."
Jake Sieverding of Bellevue was one of the younger callers, and he finished fourth. Chuck Bomia of Monmouth took fifth. And Dan Oberfoell of Dubuque won the contest for the second time.
"I felt real good,' he said. "I blew three good, clean routines."
