Great Outdoors: Fishing for Bass on Lake Iowa
By John Campbell, Reporter
A brisk wind whipped across Lake Iowa as Darrin Isaccson of Cedar Rapids and Brian Klein worked the shoreline for bass.
"Just working slow baits. It seems like they are not really chasing the lures," he said.
Probably because the water temperatures had dropped from 55 degrees to 49 in just four days.
"We're fishing wind blown rock points," he said. "Real shallow."
The strategy paid off when Darrin caught a beautiful large mouth -- just what he though he might find on a cool day at Lake Iowa.
The fisherman said that cold water presented a chance to catch a "hog," meaning a large fish, even though the numbers of fish might be down.
