Ducks on Wing

JOHNSON COUNTY, Iowa -- Duck hunting has changed for veteran Burl Matthes of Solon. He used hunt out of his boat blind and he took his "duck" vacation days earlier in the season. Now he is a field hunter and takes his days off later in the season.

Matthes believes the migration has moved west and says he is seeing fewer ducks than a decade ago.

That was not the case earlier this week when he and Terry Hora of Iowa City teamed up in an old corn field in Johnson County.

On cue, the ducks arrived by the hundreds shortly after 4pm.
Burl and Terry had some good shooting and by 4:37pm it was over. Hunting hours had expired for the day.

Officially, 3 in the bag and Gabby retrieved them all. Check the video.
