Paulson And Wagner Earn Spots at U.S. Publinks

AMES, Iowa- Two more Iowa State women's golfers - Beth Wagner and Kristin Paulson - earned spots at the 2011 U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championships, June 27-July 2 in Bandon, Ore.

The tournament will take place at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort.

The pair joins Cyclone teammates Prima Thammaraks and Abbie Horan at the prestigious event, who earned invitations through local qualifiers last week.

Wagner, who will be a freshman for the Cyclones next year, won a local qualifier yesterday at the Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny with a 72. Paulson, a senior-to-be for Iowa State, tied for second, one shot behind Wagner with a 73.

A native of Ottumwa, Iowa, Paulson had a 77.14 stroke average in 21 rounds last year for the Cyclones. The reigning Iowa Women's Amateur champion has competed in 93 rounds in her Cyclone career. Wagner, who hails from Ankeny, won the 2011 Class 4A individual state title last week with an impressive nine-shot victory.
