AMES, Iowa The Iowa State volleyball team is ranked No. 18 by Volleyball Magazine in its preseason poll for the 2011 season. Earlier this week, the Cyclones were also ranked No. 18 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) preseason poll. Iowa State is one of three Big 12 squads to be chosen in the preseason top 20.

Iowa State is slated to face four teams in the top 20 during its regular season slate. The Cyclones host No. 3 Texas on Oct. 2 before traveling to Austin to take on the Longhorns on Oct. 28. Iowa State closes out its non-conference slate at No. 5 Nebraska on Sept. 21 and also travels to No. 9 Florida on Sept. 5. The Cyclones' Big 12 matchups against Oklahoma are at home on Oct. 8 and in Norman on Nov. 2.

Iowa State, projected to finish second in the Big 12 by the league's coaches, returns five starters from its NCAA tournament squad, including AVCA All-American honorable mention middle blocker Jamie Straube. Redshirt freshman Hannah Willms was named preseason Big 12 Newcomer of the Year while Straube and junior setter Alison Landwehr were selected to the preseason All-Big 12 team.

The Cyclones will host their annual Cardinal and Gold scrimmage Saturday at 3 p.m. in Hilton Coliseum. Prior to Saturday's event, the Cyclones will host a special youth clinic for kids in the eighth grade or under from 11-noon at the Forker Building on the Iowa State campus. Season ticket holders will be treated to a chalk talk exclusive beginning at 1:30 p.m. at Hilton Coliseum. Sign up for the youth clinic is available here.
