IOWA CITY, Iowa - - Five members of the University of Iowa football team have been honored with preseason recognition. Sophomore kicker Mike Meyer was named to the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) Watch List as both a placekicker and kickoff specialist. In addition, Consensus Draft Services (CDS) named four Hawkeyes to its Preseason All-America football team. Junior offensive lineman Riley Reiff was a second-team selection, while seniors Broderick Binns, Mike Daniels and Shaun Prater received honorable mention.

Meyer (6-2, 175) made 14 of 17 field goal attempts (82.4%) in 2010 and ranked second in the Big Ten in field goals per game (1.43) during conference games. The Dubuque native also registered 15 touchbacks during his freshman campaign. Meyer's best performance of 2010 came in an 18-15 victory against Indiana, as he connected on four of five field goals, including a season-long 42-yarder. Meyer earned Big Ten Conference Special Team Player of the Week for his efforts.

CDS is the fourth media outlet to tab Reiff (6-6, 330) as a preseason All-American. Reiff was one of five lineman nationwide selected to the prestigious Playboy magazine All-American team. The Parkston, S.D. native was also named a third team preseason All-American by Phil Steele and Athlon Sports. In addition, Reiff was a first team all-Big Ten preseason pick by Lindy's and Athlon Sports. Reiff started all 13 games for the Hawkeyes in 2010 en route to earning second team all-Big Ten honors.

Binns (6-2, 261) was honored in the preseason for a second time. The St. Paul, Minn., native was a second team all-Big Ten honoree by Phil Steele. Binns and Daniels were also named to Lindy's inaugural Pony Express Award Watch List. Binns saw action in 12 games a year ago, starting five games at defensive end and recording 36 tackles. In 2009, Binns was honorable mention all-Big Ten after starting all 13 games at defensive end and posting six sacks.

In addition to being named to the Pony Express Award Watch List with Binns, Daniels was a third team all-Big Ten selection by Phil Steele. Daniels, hailing from Blackwood, N.J., appeared in all 13 games for the Black and Gold in 2010, making eight starts at defensive tackle. Daniels (6-1, 275) garnered honorable mention honors by league coaches and media in 2010 after recording 11 tackles for loss and four sacks.

Prater, an Omaha, Neb., native, was honored by Lindy's and Athlon Sports as a second team All-American. The defensive back was also named preseason first team all-Big Ten by Lindy's, Athlon Sports and Phil Steele. Prater (5-11, 180) intercepted four passes in 2010 and was a first team all-Big Ten selection by league coaches and media.

Iowa is scheduled to open its season against Tennessee Tech Sept. 3 inside Kinnick Stadium. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. CT (BTN HD).
