Paterno Retiring, TV9's Sports Director John Campbell Weighs In

By Eric Stidman

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Right now it is a stain on Penn State football and the reputation of Joe Paterno.

Paterno is a good man who failed to take enough action when he found out about the actions of a former assistant coach. He is probably a coach who stayed on too long.

As for The Big ten and college football, they lose an icon in Paterno. As a matter of fact the new, big ten football championship trophy bears his name, Paterno Stagg trophy.

I know Hayden Fry and Joe paterno were good Friends. Joe would always ask me about Hayden when I would see him in Chicago the last ten years or so. Kirk Ferentz had great respect for the man. Ferentz father in law played for Paterno.

This also makes Ferentz dean of the big coaches, but that means nothing on this sad day of college football.
