Keenan Davis Finally Gets Chance to Shine

Statistically speaking, Marvin McNutt was Iowa's top receiver last year and the good news is, he is back. The bad news? All-time leading receiver Derrell Johnson-Koulianos, tight end Allen Reisner and wideout Colin Sandeman are not back.

DJK had 46 catches for 745 yards and led the team with 10 touchdown receptions last season. Reisner started every game and finished third on the team in both catches (42) and yards (460) while Sandeman contributed 227 yards and 2 TDs despite starting only two games.

That leaves Iowa looking for another key target for quarterback James Vandenberg.

That key target could well be Keenan Davis.

Davis had 11 catches for 131 yards and one touchdown last year, but the junior from Cedar Rapids Washington is being counted on for more production this season.

"He's one of the older guys that's made a dramatic jump in how he's going about things right now," said offensive coordinator Ken O'Keefe. "He's developed into a leader at his position that the young guys look up to and are following. They'll watch how he does stuff."

"He's just a great guy," Vandenberg said. "He's a great talent, he's big like Marv [McNutt], so that provides a lot of room out there and then he can get up there. He's a big receiver that does a lot of things that other guys can't do just because of his size."

Davis is listed at 6 feet, 3 inches and weighs 215 pounds. McNutt is listed at 6-4, 215. McNutt has been held out of spring drills while he rehabs from surgery.

The Hawkeyes' spring scrimmage gets under way at Kinnick Stadium at noon Saturday.
