MOUNT VERNON - Adam Hadenfeldt has announced his resignation as Cornell College's head baseball coach, effective June 30.
Hadenfeldt, a 2006 Cornell graduate, completed his second season with the Rams this spring.
"After much thought and consideration, I have decided to resign as Cornell College's baseball coach to explore other opportunities in the teaching and coaching profession," said Hadenfeldt, who finished with a 7-59 mark on the Hilltop. "I have the utmost respect for the Cornell administration and staff and every member of the baseball program. I enjoyed my experiences at Cornell as a coach, and as a student-athlete here for four years."
The Rams closed the 2011 campaign at 3-29 overall. Cornell finished 1-23 in Iowa Conference play.
Cornell Director of Athletics John Cochrane said a national search for Hadenfeldt's successor will begin immediately.
"Adam Hadenfeldt is a very high-quality individual for whom I have a great deal of personal respect," Cochrane said. "He will always be a very important member of our Cornell athletics family and I know he'll have nothing but success in his career as a coach and educator."
Hadenfeldt was a successful two-sport athlete at Cornell in baseball and football. He was a member of three IIAC Tournament baseball teams, including the program's last postseason qualifier in 2004 and the record-setting 27-win squad in 2003. Hadenfeldt was an assistant on Cornell's baseball staff in 2006.
"Cornell is a special place to me, and has a special opportunity in the baseball program to improve very quickly," Hadenfeldt said. "I have confidence that the athletic administration will make an outstanding hire."
Hadenfeldt previously coached and taught three years at HLV Community High School, where he was head baseball and girls track and field coach.
