Former Hawkeye Hinkel Uses Football Smarts as Regina Coordinator
By Scott Saville, Sports Director and K.J. Pilcher, Reporter
"The Program" series, which is following Iowa City Regina football all season, continues with a look at Ed Hinkel a former Iowa wide receiver and the current offensive coordinator at Regina.
The Regals won the 2A title in 2010 and 2011, adding the 1A championship last season. They are in search of another 1A title this season, attempting to win a fourth straight. Regina has now won 46 straight games, trying to match the state's record unbeaten streak of 56 games held by Waterloo East.
The Trojans, however, opened the streak with a tie, so an undefeated season will give the Regals sole position of the state's longest win streak.
"The Program" features stories at www.iowaprepsports.com and www.kcrg.com, in addition to weekly stories in The Gazette and occasional TV packages on KCRG. Content will include game coverage and a look behind-the-scenes during the season. An interactive homepage can be found on thegazette.com.
We hope you enjoy the in-depth look of one of Eastern Iowa's sports programs.
