Cedar Rapids-In an age when road races come and go, the 5th Season 8K has endured. The first race was held in 1986. Dr. Ken Paulsen was the director and he had high hopes that the event would develop into a nationally known road race. That is one reason they chose the rare distance, 8K. It is also why they were the first race in Iowa to offer prize money.
Joseph Kipsang and Nan Doak won the initial race. Keith Brantly set the men's record in 1988 with a time of 22:38. Kris Ihle ran it in 25:55 in 1997 to set a women's mark that still stands. More Good Stuff |
