Five Iowa Wrestlers Head to NCAA Semifinals

OMAHA, Neb. (AP and John Sears) - Iowa has increased its lead in the team race at the NCAA championships by sending five wrestlers into the semifinals.

The Hawkeyes ran their point total to 73 during Friday's quarterfinals and wrestlebacks. Cornell was second with 54 and Iowa State and Ohio State were tied for third with 46.

With big points at stake in the semifinals Friday evening, Iowa is well-positioned to win its third straight team title. Four other Iowa wrestlers can earn points in the consolation brackets.

Unseeded 157-pounder Justin Lister of Binghamton posted the upset of the day. He pinned third-seeded Jesse Dong of Virginia Tech in 1 minute, 18 seconds.
