Iowa City-Matt McDonough has gone to the NCAA Wrestling championships many times, as a fan. This week he goes as the #2 rated wrestler at 125.
The Iowa redshirt freshman cherishes the big stage and pressure that goes along with it. During the regular season McDonough won 32 matches in a row before losing the Big Ten Championship match.
He has been working to correct what went wrong that day. Coach Tom Brands says McDonough is a great student of the sport and former coach Dan Gable compares McDonough's aggressive style to that of another Hawkeye, Brent Metcalf. As Gable puts it, "They wrestle from the top of their heads to the tips of their toes."
The NCAAs open Thursday in Omaha.
