CEDAR FALLS - Northern Iowa center Jordan Eglseder has been suspended for three games following an arrest early Sunday morning on charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
The suspension is in accordance with the University’s Student-Athlete Code of Conduct policy.
“Jordan used extremely poor judgment and as a result has let down himself, his teammates, his fellow students, as well as our alumni and fans,” UNI Coach Ben Jacobson said in a press release issued last night. “I am highly disappointed in Jordan and his actions.”
Eglseder, a 7-foot senior from Bellevue, averages 12.2 points and leads the 22-3 Panthers with 7.6 rebounds per game. He has played in 111 games during his college career.
“I made a regretful decision last night,” Eglseder said in the press release. “I want to apologize to my teammates as well as everyone who supports our basketball program. In particular, our student body, our fans and the University. I deeply regret my actions.”
His suspension comes as UNI is closing in on its first outright Missouri Valley Conference title and build a resume for an at-large berth in the NCAA Tournament.
UNI hosts Creighton on Tuesday night before hosting Old Dominion in a Bracketbuster game on Friday night.
