SOLON - A Solon running back has been named Iowa's Gatorade Player of the Year, for the second year in a row.

James Morris earned the honor during the 2008-2009 school year and again for the 2009-2010 school year.

Last month, Solon beat Boyden Hull-Rock Valley 38-7 to win the class 2A state football title for the third straight year. James Morris led the way with 214 yards rushing and 4 TD's.

The Spartans are the first 2A team ever to win three straight state championships. Solon has won 41 straight games, with their last loss in the 2006 state title game.

Back in 2007, Morris verbally committed to play college ball at the University of Iowa.

The Gatorade Company established an award honoring America’s elite high school student-athletes back in 1985.
