CEDAR RAPIDS - Cedar Rapids Kennedy Senior Savanah Schott is building quite the resume as her high school diving career nears the end.
Schott placed first at the MVC conference meet, then went on to win the Regional, and now is on to the state meet.
"I didn't know I won till the local newspaper started interviewing me. He's like, so how does it feel to have won? And I'm like...I was so surprised, I felt really good."
But here's the twist. Schott just started diving back in mid August. Less than 3 months on the board, and she's a state qualifier.
"We really haven't had this situation before. it's a blessing from above, no doubt about that, says Kennedy Coach John Ross.

"I wish I would have started as a Freshman, my summer of 8th grade I talked to JR, he knew I was a gymnast so he wanted me to go out for diving but I didn't listen to him. I stuck with gymnastics. I do wish I would have started earlier, says Savanah. "When I started my main goal was to make it to state. Now I want to place Top 6, that would be amazing, I'd be so happy."

3 Months ago Savanah was contemplating going out for diving. Now she's heading to the state meet, and she certainly has a Shot to achieve her goals.

The state diving meet is Friday November 6th, with the state swim meet the following day on Saturday.
