Washington Limits Kennedy to Field Goal

CEDAR RAPIDS – The last time Cedar Rapids Washington played Iowa City High, well, let’s allow Warriors coach Tony Lombardi to explain what happened.

“They beat the crap out of us.”

Moments after Washington defeated Cedar Rapids Kennedy 16-3 Monday night at chilly Kingston Stadium, Lombardi already was thinking about Friday night’s rematch at Bates Field, site of top-ranked City High’s 65-21 defeat of Washington on Sept. 4.

When the teams battle again in a Class 4A State quarterfinal, things might not be the same.
