MADISON, WI - With Cedar Rapids native Zach Johnson in attendance on Saturday the Iowa Hawkeyes didn't disappoint, beating the rival Badgers 20-10.
You'd be hard pressed to find a happier Hawkeye fan than Zach.
"It was like Christmas and New Years all rolled in to one. I just wanted to come and enjoy the team, the game, but to get the win the way they did was fantastic. This team is relentless, its fun to watch and easy to be a fan."
But Zach didn't just witness the win on the field. He mingled with Coach Kirk Ferentz in the locker room, and then led the team in singing the fight song.
"Words can't describe it it's a surreal experience for me. Quite honestly Iowa football tends to rule my life at times and emotions so when I have an opportunity my knees started to buckle. I had first tee jitters."
"It was neat to have him on the sideline and better to have him in the locker room. His enthusiasm is contagious that way," says Ferentz.
Iowa QB Ricky Stanzi isn't much of a golfer, but loved having Johnson lead the fight song.
"He was loving it as much as we were. We're big fans of him and he's a big fans of ours so it was cool to see it both ways."
"I hope I get the experience again at the same time I'm going to cherish this one. I just feel very honored," Johnson said smiling.
