CEDAR RAPIDS - The rain tried to put a damper on the 24th annual running of the 5th Season 8K, but in reality it probably helped the runners.
In the end we had the 3rd fastest time ever.
Over 2,000 Runners invaded the streets of Cedar Rapids at 7:30 this morning.
On the mens side 19 year old Kenyan Simon Cheprot won in a blistering time of 22 minutes 45 seconds...28 ticks faster than 2nd place Alena Reta...
Cheprot finished just 7 seconds off the all-time recor, and recorded the fastest time since 1996.
On the womens side former Hawkeye All-American Racheal Marchand took gold in 26 minutes 18 seconds.
Another former Hawkeye Diane Nukuri finished 2nd.
