FORT DODGE, IA - Solon entered the state tournament unranked and left with everyone's respect. The Lady Spartans took 2nd ranked North Polk to the brink, before losing 4-2 in the 2A title game.
Solon jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 4th thanks in part to Becca Smith's lead-off double, followed up by Arran Weeces infielders choice RBI. Jessica Nearad also added an RBI single in the 4th.
North Polk answered in the 6th, pitcher Sammy Snygg hit a big 2-run homerun to tie it at 2. The Comets would later push the winning run across on a passed ball.
Solon finishes the year 26-17 and runner-up.
