It was an emotional day in Ames on Friday. Olympic gold medalist Cael Sanderson succeeded Bobby Douglas as the Iowa State wrestling coach.

“We are going to win. We are going to win national championships. That is our goal. There is no other goal here.” Iowa State’s new wrestling coach, Cael Sanderson, is ready to win.

Bobby Douglas, who coached the Cyclones for 14 years was present at Friday’s press conference but did not speak. He had his statement read by Tom Kroeschell. “I could not be more supportive of the choice of Cael Sanderson to take over the I.S.U. program. I wanted to be sure that the future of cyclone wrestling was in good hands and Cael Sanderson is the man to lead this program forward.”

So Sanderson is in Ames. The next question, who takes over in Iowa City?
