Southeast Iowa Sheriff Frustrated After More Than 100 Recent Burglary Reports

  • Photo

MEDIAPOLIS, Iowa (AP) A county sheriff in southeast Iowa has expressed frustration with efforts to arrest someone believed to be behind more than 100 home and car burglaries.

Authorities in Mediapolis have been trying to track down a suspect in the burglaries, which have occurred in the past three months. But Des Moines County Sheriff Mike Johnstone says residents make the situation worse by not locking their property or immediately calling authorities when crimes occur.

Johnstone tells the Burlington Hawk Eye that Mediapolis residents are not used to locking their vehicles or their homes.

Authorities say they have a description of a suspect. Residents have been asked to call them immediately if they see any suspicious activity.
