JOHNSON COUNTY, Iowa — The Johnson County Sheriff’s office is investigating a horse shooting on Amana Road near the towns of Amana and Swisher.

Horse owner Mike Green said someone shot his 14-month-old horse, Emma, earlier this week. The horse suffered two gunshot wounds to the right front leg and was euthanized Thursday afternoon.

“A horse needs all four legs,” Green said. “She is a great horse, this is hard.”

Veterinarians hope to be able to get the bullets from the horse’s leg to help the Sheriff’s Office with the investigation.

Last year three horses were also shot on Amana Road. A Cedar Rapids man was arrested and took a plea deal in that shooting earlier this year.

Anyone with information should call the Sheriff’s Office.
