CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Cedar Rapids Salvation Army is giving away hundreds of fans to help people fight the summer heat.
Those who showed up Thursday morning with an Iowa ID and a Social Security card could receive a fan.
An outside donation and extra fans at the Salvation Army branch made this event possible.
The fans help those without access to air conditioning cool down in the muggy summer heat.
Major Barbara Logan says, Well you know, you sleep a lot better when you’re cooler and do better at work and school and stuff, so we just wanted families to have some relief from the humidity that’s been going on.
Logan says the community has always been good with helping each other and now The Salvation Army wants to help the families who are in need.
People interested in getting a fan must not have received one from The Salvation Army since 2009. There is also a limit of one fan per household.
The next event will be a week from today from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
