PARKERSBURG - Aplington Parkersburg will open its new high school Monday. An EF5 tornado destroyed the old school building on May 25, 2008.

Superintendent Jon Thompson says academic wings of the building will be ready for students on Monday, but some detail work remains, so construction will continue over the next few months.

The project cost $19 million.

This Friday, the AP football team will kick-off its first football season in 34 years without head coach Ed Thomas.

You can see the emotional season opener on KCRG-TV9 this Friday. ESPN is broadcasting AP's game against Dike-New Hartford to a national audience.

Our coverage starts on the KCRG-TV9 News at 6, with kickoff at 6:45.
