PARKERSBURG (AP) - The Aplington-Parkersburg School District will start a new school year with a new high school.

An EF5 tornado destroyed the school and a large part of Parkersburg on May 25, 2008.

Since Friday, more than 100 people have turned out to help carry furniture, dust shelves and unpack boxes at the high school. Classes start on Monday.

Superintendent Jon Thompson says academic wings will be ready, but some detail work remains and construction will continue over the next few months on the $19 million building.

Parkersburg also is dealing with the loss of its football coach. Ed Thomas was shot to death June 24. Mark Becker, a former player, is charged in the slaying.
