(BUTLER COUNTY) - Emergency officials have issued a boil order for Parkersburg.

That means residents there should not use water for consumption, cooking, or brushing teeth unless it has been boiled first.

The boil order is only in effect for Parkersburg until further notice from authorities. Check back with KCRG.com for updates when they become available.

According to Iowa Department of Natural Resources officials, during a boil order anywhere in the state ...

"Residents and businesses should use an alternative source of water or boil water used for drinking or cooking, brushing teeth, food preparation or any other purpose involving human consumption until the boil order is lifted. Water may still be used for bathing.

Boiling destroys disease-causing organisms, which may be in the water. Water should be brought to a boil, boiled one minute and then allowed to cool before using. More information on disinfecting water is available on the EPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline at (800) 426-4791."
