Storm Dampens First Night on RAGBRAI XXXVI

By John Campbell, TV9 Sports

By Becky Ogann

HARLAN - RAGBRAI XXXVI made it's first overnight stop in the Western Iowa community of Harlan. And while the community welcomed riders with open arms, mother nature wasn't so kind.

It was shortly after 2:00 am when loud speaker trucks rolled through Harlan, warning camping riders of approaching severe thunder storms.

TV9's John Campbell took shelter at Harlan Elementary School with hundreds of other riders. Many of them were laying out sleeping bags up and down the hallways, trying to get a few more minutes of sleep.

At about 3:10 am the all clear came. People filed out of their shelters, back to their tents to try to get some more sleep before a big day of riding.
