Business Goals Anything but Itsy Bitsy
NORTH LIBERTY, Iowa – A study of North Liberty’s demographics led the Mercer family to decide the city would be a great place to open their store. Nic and Kelly own Itsy Bitsy Boutique, a shop that specializes in all things baby.
The store provides a bright space for locals to buy and sell secondhand children’s clothing. Kelly said, “I wanted to create a place where people could shop secondhand and not feel like they’re shopping in a basement.”
And not everything is resale, some items are made by hand right here in eastern Iowa. Local artisans create everything from clothes, to accessories and toys.
While Kelly still works part-time as a nurse, Nic quit his full time job at the University of Iowa to start the business. But there is one main bonus of their time spent at the store, their son 8-month-old Gannon is always with them. “He’s not in daycare, he’s with mom and dad every day and that’s a lot of fun,” Nic said.
Itsy Bitsy Boutique is located off Iowa 965 in North Liberty. The shop is open seven days a week.
