NORTH LIBERTY - Jason Price and Duez Henderson run Bound-4-Glory Sports. Both are former Iowa Hawkeye Basketball players and they use North Liberty's community center to run their summer camps.
"We live in Iowa City and finding a good facility is really hard to come by. We worked a little bit at other facilities but this is by far the best because we need a good floor," said Price.
North Liberty started building the community center in 1997 and it was finished in 2004. The two phase project includes and indoor and outdoor pool, conference center, track extension, and Library. Along with many other recreation areas, the community center has something for everyone.
"I believe its definitely a gathering spot. Again, during the school year some kids stop here and this is the focal point where they come and meet after school, during the summer it is the place to come," said Shelly Simpson, Recreation Director.
Many families use the Community Center by enrolling their kids in a variety of day camps and swimming lessons.
"The kids love to take advantage of the library and in the winter time we take advantage of the track and court inside and they do sports leagues with the kids to introduce them to different things," said Steve Schrepfer, Community Center Member.
As interest continues to grow, the North Liberty Community Center is beginning to plan for the future.
"We do have growing pains. On the recreation side we are very fortunate to have the facility we have with the growth we've had. Were content but we would always like to add more additions on if possible," said Price.
