Downtown Dysart Sees Revitalization in Main Street Business
DYSART, Iowa—The downtown business scene is a bit different than in other towns, according to shop owners.
“Everybody works together here, and everybody looks out for each other, and that's kind of rare in a community,” said Iowa Country Store owner Mike Svodoba.
It’s a common theme all along Main Street.
“We work together as a group to make Dysart a destination place and a place that people want to come to,” said Sheri Guillot, owner of Custom Creations by Sheri.
This unique business model seems to be what helped bring shoppers back to Dysart.
“Back in 2001 most of the stores on Main Street were closed,” said Guillot.
She was one of the first businesses to open up in Dysart, and helped to start other shops by sharing her building with “Imagine This” store owner Carol Zeien.
Today, the whole street is full of shops.
Custom Creations owner Sheri Gill-ee- ott was one of the first businesses to open up downtown, and was just one of four. After being in business for a few years, she helped "ImagineThis" store owner Carol Zeien get started by sharing her building. Now, the whole street is full of businesses.
“We're very proud, we can't do it alone without the energy of somebody having the desire and ambition to do something,” said Dysart Development Corporation President Dwayne Luze.
