First Day of Brand New School System to Start this Fall
WEST UNION, Iowa – The first day of school for the high school and middle school students in West Union will bring a lot of firsts. North Fayette Community School and Valley Community Schools are grade sharing their middle and high schools. The North Fayette Valley Community Middle School, which it will now be called, will be at Valley’s location and the high school will be in West Union. Each district will keep their own elementary schools. The grade sharing will bring new programs to students.
“North Fayette didn't go into it in order to save money, we went into it to make sure we could offer quality programs, to make sure things like project lead the way is available to our students,” saud Duane Willhite, Superintendent for both school districts. “We couldn't have done that without this critical mass of students.”
The high school's new mascot is the tiger-hawk and they're still working on what exactly that will look like.
