Dubuque Colts Celebrate 50 Years of Music

DUBUQUE, Iowa - A youth organization in Our Town has been marching in step to its own sounds for half a century. About 26-hundred kids have gone through the Dubuque Colts Drum and Bugle Corps since its founding in 1963.

About 300 youth audition every year, but The Colts only take 150 musicians. Kids come from all over the state, the country, and even the world come here to join the Colts. It takes incredible dedication with touring and performances that run throughout the entire summer.

"They are just incredibly motivated. They are outstanding young people. They're not normal kids. Normal kids don't want to work this hard. You know ten-12 hours a day all summer. We moved in Memorial Day weekend and we get off the bus if you will on August 11th. We are in session the whole time," Greg Orwoll, Youth Colts Development Director said.

To commemorate 50 years, the Colts will perform its annual "Music on the March Drum Corps" show for the first time on the newly-renovated Dalzell Field at Dubuque Senior High School, Friday July 12th. A reunion will follow on Saturday, July 13th.
