DES MOINES - Democrat John Edwards' wife, Elizabeth, will take part in a rally against breast cancer. She plans to participate in the Susan G. Komen "Close the Gap" event Thursday at the Iowa State Fair.

In March, Edwards announced a recurrence of her breast cancer. The Des Moines rally is part of a nationwide effort challenging Americans to "close the gaps" in breast cancer care and deaths.

A new report from the Komen Foundation shows racial and income disparities exist when it comes to cancer treatments.
