IOWA CITY - The caucuses are just one week away. Candidates and campaigns are moving full-steam ahead to reach every possible participant. KCRG-TV9 takes you inside two political headquarters.
If you have not heard the phone calls by now odds are you will in the coming days. Intern for Rudy Giuliani’s Iowa City Headquarters Jessie Appelby said, “You want to do as much as you can in those last few days while you still have a chance."
With one week until the caucuses, candidates' campaign headquarters are pushing politics to the limit. Bill Richardson's Regional Field Director says the energy level is ramped up with the deadline looming. There is a lot for Daniela Glick to do. She said, “We're preparing for the governor to be here three or four times in the next seven days."
Glick is in charge of getting volunteers to find and lock down sites for her candidate's appearances. She said, “We know we can do this and we know what it takes to get it done."
You will hear that same sort of talk in Giuliani's camp. The focus there is reaching every possible person who can support the former mayor. Appelby said, “It is the final push, so it's busier. A lot more hectic."
When the campaigns created offices in the summer, there were six months to get everything done. But now there is just one week. Each office will fill up with dozens of volunteers returning from the holiday to make the final political push a successful one.
Richardson is planning a few trips to Johnson County in the next week. There is no word on whether Giuliani will be in Iowa before the caucuses.
