Huckabee to Rock Surf Ballroom

By Scott Sanborn

DES MOINES (AP) - Republican presidential candidate Mike
Huckabee will be in Clear Lake later this week. But this visit is a
little different.

The former Arkansas governor, who plays bass guitar, will
perform with his band Capitol Offense at the legendary Surf
Ballroom on Friday. It's where Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The
Big Bopper played their last gig before a fatal plane crash in
1959.

Huckabee, who began playing the guitar when he was 11 years old,
says the Surf Ballroom is a cultural icon, and he's sure he'll
never forget playing there.

Capitol Offense is a classic rock-and-roll band.

The event, which campaign officials says is not a fundraiser,
costs $10 per person or $25 per family.

Huckabee's band has played in Iowa before, including at the
Republican straw poll in Ames in August when he made a surprise
second place finish.
