Political Play of the Day: Dodd Moves Family to Iowa

By Becky Ogann

DES MOINES (AP) - Democratic presidential candidate Chris Dodd will have a new pitch to Iowans: Vote for a neighbor.

The Connecticut senator has rented a house in Des Moines, where he and his family will live until the caucuses in January. Dodd and his wife, Jackie Clegg Dodd, have two daughters, 6-year-old Grace and 2-year-old Christina.

The Dodds are arranging to enroll Grace in kindergarten.

It's not the first time a contender has moved to the state. In the 1988 election cycle, then-Congressman Richard Gephardt of Missouri rented an apartment in Iowa and became a virtual resident. He won the caucuses that year, but quickly faded.
