Seventy-five eastern Iowa veterans traveled to Washington, D.C. on an “Honor Flight” in early November 2009. People in Linn County donated more than $32,000 to make the flight possible. As a result, veterans flew to the nation’s capital free of charge.
KCRG-TV9's Mark Geary traveled along with photojournalists Dane Firkus and Brian Ray to document the journey. Be sure to check out our special stories, pictures and video you won't find anywhere else.
For this flight, eastern Iowa veterans shared a private jet with veterans from the Quad Cities area. Right now, an effort is underway to create a Cedar Rapids/North Central Iowa branch of the national “Honor Flight” organization.
