CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - President Obama will present the Medal of Honor to Army Staff Sergeant Sal Giunta on Tuesday, November 16th.

The Hiawatha native will be the first living recipient of the nation's highest military honor since the Vietnam War.

Giunta put himself into harm's way to save other soldiers in his squad when insurgents ambushed them in Afghanistan in 2007.

“When I first heard they were putting me in for the Medal of Honor, I felt lost. Felt kinda angry. It came at such a price,” said Sgt. Sal Giunta. “It's very bittersweet. I mean, it's such a huge honor. It's a great thing. But it is a great thing that has come at a personal loss to so many other families.”

KCRG-TV9 will be in Washington D.C. covering the White House ceremony where the President will decorate Staff Sergeant Giunta with the Medal of Honor. The ceremony starts at 1:00 p.m. Iowa time.
