Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz Remembers Coach Ed Thomas

IOWA CITY - People throughout the sports world are reacting to the murder of Ed Thomas. One of them is Iowa Football Coach Kirk Ferentz.
Coach Ferentz and Coach Thomas first met in the early 1980's when Ferentz was working as an assistant under Hayden Fry. Since that first meeting, the two football coaches had become very good, close friends.
They shared the same coaching philosophy and same values about life and being kind and helpful to those around you.
It was just over a year ago that Coach Ferentz and his Hawkeye football team traveled to Parkersburg to help clean up after the tornado devastated this town.
Coach Ferentz said they went because they wanted to help Ed's community, it was a way for them to help the man who had given so much to so many.
"He's the guy who always called you after a tough game, after a tough loss. Ed always thinks about other people. He was always there to fill a need," said Ferentz.
Coach Ferentz says his heart bleeds for the loss suffered by the Thomas family and Parkersburg community
Ferentz says the power of Ed Thomas goes well beyond football as he used the sport to teach many important life lessons. Coach Ferentz will likely attend the funeral for his friend Ed.
