DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Gov. Terry Branstad has signed an emergency disaster proclamation for Benton County after the county was battered by powerful thunderstorms.

Branstad signed the proclamation Tuesday, a day after severe storms moved across central and eastern Iowa, downing tree limbs and power lines. Benton County officials requested state assistance to recover from the storms.

The proclamation allows state resources to be used to respond to and recover from the storms.
