On Monday, July 11, a complex of severe thunderstorms produced widespread damage as they moved through Marshall, Tama & Linn Counties as well as other areas of Eastern Iowa.

Meteorologists say the damage was caused by straightline winds. Meteorologists estimate the winds reached 80-105 MPH as the storms moved through Marshall & Tama Counties. The communities of Garrison and Vinton were the hardest hit by the winds, which reached 110-130 MPH according to the National Weather Service.

Thousands of people lost power The mayor of Vinton said it could take a week to completely restore power to the community.
