WATERLOO, Iowa - With Election Day 2014 less than 9 months away, the political watchers are keeping their eyes on the primaries.

Before then -- one critical race is who will win the Republican nomination to face Bruce Braley for the open U.S. Senate seat?

One person who said he will not be running in 2014 is Bob Vander Plaats.

The conservative activist has a book coming out soon. He challenged Terry Branstad in 2010 for the Republican Nomination for Governor.

At least 5 Republicans are vying for the nomination against Braley, a four-term Democratic Congressman from Waterloo.
