DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Two top Republicans attended a fundraiser for Gov. Terry Branstad in Washington.

The Des Moines Register reports Wednesday that Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour appeared at the event Tuesday night at the National Republican Club of Capitol Hill.

Other invited guests included Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker. But Cruz was speaking on the Senate floor during the event and the others had scheduling conflicts.

Branstad has not announced his political plans, but he is widely expected to seek a sixth term as governor in 2014.

Many of those listed on the fundraiser invitation are considered possible 2016 Republican presidential contenders who are well aware of Iowa's prominence as an early voting state.
