Branstad Names Findley As Interim Chief Of Staff

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Gov. Terry Branstad on Wednesday named Brenna Findley to serve as the interim chief of staff for his administration to fill a vacancy that will be created when Jeff Boeyink ends his tenure as the governor’s key manager on Friday.

Findley, who also serves as the governor’s legal counsel, has agreed to serve in a dual capacity while a search is conducted for a permanent replacement following Boeyink’s resignation last week. She ran an unsuccessful GOP bid for attorney general in the 2010 election.

“Brenna will provide continuity within our office as I search for a new chief of staff,” Branstad said in a statement. “I am pleased Brenna has agreed to serve in this important role, and will rely on her leadership as we continue the work and operations of my administration.”

Findley, a Dexter native, graduated from Drake University with degrees in political science and history and a minor in Russian. She earned her law degree at the University of Chicago Law School and has served both in private practice and formerly as chief of staff to U.S. Rep. Steve King, R-Kiron.

Branstad will embark on a trade mission to India and Japan on Friday. A permanent chief of staff will not be named prior to the governor’s Sept. 18 return to Iowa, Branstad’s office said in a statement.

Boeyink -- who served as the governor’s 2010 campaign manager ; as co-chair of the transition team following the successful November 2010 election; and as Branstad’s chief of staff since the January 2011 inaugural – said he is leaving the Branstad administration on Friday to return to the private sector.

He previously served stints as a lobbyist and president of Muscatine-based Iowans for Tax Relief, and as executive director of the Republican Party of Iowa before agreeing to manage Branstad’s 2010 gubernatorial campaign.
