Tractor Collection Turns Heads In Coggon

By Richard Pratt

COGGON, Iowa -- Motorists traveling along Highway 13 near Ryan might have noticed an unusual bit of lawn decoration this holiday weekend.

Delaware County farmer Ed Offerman, along with some family and friends put together a display of antique tractors. More than 61 tractors lined the front yard of the farm house, inviting anyone to stop and take a closer look.

The owners say it gives them a kick to share their collection with strangers.

"We have a lot of the older people who stop and say they had this as a kid ... this tractor, that tractor," Offerman said. "It's fun listening to those old guys and stories."

Offerman says he and the fellow antique tractor owners put on this display on Memorial Day, the Fourth of July and Labor Day.

But it's getting to be a bit time consuming after ten years or so. Owners say they may cut back to just Labor Day weekend.
